CITY OF GOLD - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between shadowed facades and evening traffic, City of Gold turns the urban commute into a passage through changing states of light. Its energy is not only the rush of the avenue, but the promise held within movement - the sense that a familiar street can briefly become charged with possibility. The city feels inhabited yet elusive, close enough to enter and too expansive to fully comprehend.

The yellow taxi gives that feeling a human direction without resolving it. Angled toward the viewer, it seems to arrive from the deeper city while also carrying the gaze onward, toward the warm opening at the end of the street. Reflections across the wet pavement make the roadway feel less like a fixed boundary than a field of passing impressions, where headlights, windows, and dusk mingle.

Along the darker buildings, scattered lights suggest countless lives continuing beyond the immediate scene. The small figures at the street’s edge remain indistinct, preserving the distance between private experience and public motion. Above them, the slender tower gives the avenue a point of orientation, though the surrounding glow keeps the destination open - a city understood not as a single place, but as an atmosphere of arrival and departure.
