CITY BLUES - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Under the unsettled afterglow of evening, City Blues turns the modern city into a state of passing through - restless, luminous, and briefly shared. Its elevated view does not offer certainty or intimacy; instead, it holds the streets at a reflective distance, where movement becomes a pulse and the surrounding towers seem to absorb the lives moving beneath them. The scene feels awake without becoming familiar, suspended between departure and arrival.

The diagonal roadway draws attention toward a concentrated field of light, suggesting not a destination so much as the accumulating momentum of the night. Warm signals gather against the cool urban darkness, carrying the impression of countless private errands, meetings, and returns without assigning any one story to them. In this tension, the city appears both impersonal and quietly companionable.

Above the activity, the broad blue-violet sky gives the work a spacious, almost weightless calm. That openness complicates the energy below: the traffic may be urgent, yet the night remains patient, allowing each small illumination to register as a momentary sign of human presence. The result is an urban atmosphere shaped as much by anticipation as by motion.
