CATHEDRAL OF SPIDERS - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the threshold between sanctuary and threat, Cathedral of Spiders turns Gothic architecture into a stage for uneasy recognition. The centered creature does not merely guard the cathedral; it seems to belong to the same order of darkness, its angular reach echoing the building’s pointed ascent. Warm windows hold their glow with the gravity of something protected, or perhaps something waiting to be revealed.

The dense blue webbing changes the cathedral from a place of passage into a sealed interior, where every route appears caught in a larger design. Against that cool enclosure, the amber illumination feels less comforting than watchful. The scene’s symmetry intensifies this tension, giving the encounter a ceremonial stillness while denying any clear distinction between worship, confinement, and possession.

Beneath the towering façade, reflective bands draw the eye back toward the foreground and make the ground feel uncertain, almost dreamlike. Small points of warmth recede into the surrounding darkness, suggesting distance without offering escape. What remains is a striking meditation on awe when the sacred and the menacing occupy the same structure, each lending the other its power.
