CANOPY OF NEW LEAVES - FRAMED

The upward view turns Canopy of New Leaves into an encounter with shelter that remains open to possibility. Beneath the crowded branches, the eye is drawn toward a pale opening of sky, where enclosure gives way to air. The work holds these impulses together without resolving them: rooted darkness surrounds a brightness that feels near, yet beyond reach.

The canopy’s density lends the scene a sense of protection, while the angled limbs keep directing attention outward and upward. Light caught among the leaves suggests movement without showing its source, as though the trees are continually responding to a passing change in the day. Their gathered presence feels less like a barrier than a living threshold.

At the center, the sky is not a destination so much as a pause in the surrounding foliage. It gives the composition room to breathe and makes the darker branches feel purposeful, shaping a passage through which attention can travel. The upward perspective also alters the usual human scale, placing the viewer within the trees rather than before them.

What lingers is the tension between concealment and renewal. Small variations of green and yellow-green keep the canopy lively, but the mood remains sheltered rather than exuberant. The scene invites a moment of looking beyond immediate ground and circumstance, toward a freshness that is already present in the interwoven branches.
