This painting looks tridimensional and has a lot of heavy textures
CALM HELD depicts a suburban street at night lit by flickering streetlights and an uneasy glow. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.
Paint is layered and partially scraped back, allowing underlying tones to emerge and interact with light.
The scene feels intimate and tactile, encouraging slow, reflective viewing.

Night gathers along a road that seems to hold more feeling than destination, and Calm Held turns that suspended passage into an intimate meditation on attention. The neighborhood recedes beneath a dark sky, yet the distance does not feel empty; it remains charged by the possibility of return, departure, or simply the pause between the two. A single yellow streetlamp near the upper center gives the scene a human measure, modest but insistent.
The wet roadway becomes the work’s emotional register, carrying fragments of red, pink, gold, and blue farther than their sources. These reflections do not clarify the night so much as complicate it, suggesting how memory can preserve an atmosphere while allowing the original moment to drift beyond reach. The cars ahead appear less like arrivals than markers of time continuing through a place that otherwise seems held still.
Overhead wires and dark trees draw a quiet tension across the open route, keeping the scene connected to ordinary life even as rain and distance soften its edges. What emerges is not solitude as absence, but solitude shared with the unseen households, passing vehicles, and lights that make the night feel inhabited. The road remains open, though its destination is deliberately withheld.
