BROKEN MIRROR - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between distance and recognition, Broken Mirror turns the waterfront into a place where certainty keeps shifting. Across the dark water, a small sailboat seems to move through an unsettled field of reflected light, while the illuminated shore holds its distance like a promise that cannot quite be reached. The scene feels less like a view than a moment of suspended passage, poised between departure and return.

The shoreline's warmth does not settle the surrounding darkness; it intensifies it. Lamps gather along the promenade and descend into the water as broken vertical glimmers, suggesting that what is remembered may arrive in fragments rather than in a clear sequence. Near the center-right, the slender tower-like form gives the horizon a point of orientation, yet the surrounding silhouettes remain deliberately unreadable.

That tension gives the work its particular energy. The boat is small against the breadth of blue and violet, but it prevents the scene from becoming entirely still. Light travels outward, loses its source, and becomes something more private - a trace carried across the water, vivid enough to follow but too changeable to possess.
