BOY WITH FLOATING PAPER PLANES - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the center of an unsettled reverie, Boy With Floating Paper Planes holds the tension between inwardness and escape. The figure’s enlarged, watchful eyes seem fixed on a thought just beyond reach, while the suspended forms gather around him like messages released before they can be answered. His formal clothing lends the scene a curious gravity, as though imagination has arrived in the middle of an expected role.

The surrounding darkness makes each airborne shape feel provisional rather than triumphant. Some drift close to the face, others recede into shadow, creating the sense of a mind crowded by possibilities that cannot quite settle. The pale plane near the lower right, marked with dark lines, hints at communication without revealing its meaning - a private note carried into an uncertain distance.

What remains most affecting is the contrast between the figure’s composed posture and the restless world around him. He appears isolated, yet not empty; the orbiting forms suggest memory, invention, or wishes still in motion. The work leaves that inner activity unresolved, suspended between the need to send something outward and the knowledge that it may return altered.
