BONE AND MARROW - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Within a compressed field of openings and pressure, Bone and Marrow becomes an image of inner life without settling into anatomy. Its pale forms seem to gather around a concealed force, while the dark recesses suggest depth that remains inaccessible. The work holds intimacy and unease together, as though the visible world has been reduced to its most elemental structures.

A broad red-orange current crosses the center, bringing heat into an otherwise guarded arrangement. It can be read as vitality, warning, or a memory that refuses to fade, but its meaning stays deliberately unstable. The surrounding cream and ochre forms do not contain it so much as bear witness to its passage.

The repeated rounded cavities create a rhythm that feels almost biological, yet the horizontal structure resists any straightforward reading of the body. Dark bands at the edges close the image into a narrow interval, giving the central passage the character of something witnessed under pressure. Nothing opens fully; every apparent revelation leads to another enclosure.

What remains is a charged meditation on emergence and concealment. The pale structures seem to preserve traces of an order that the saturated middle has disturbed, while the near-black spaces keep that disturbance from becoming transparent. The image invites attention to the threshold between what sustains us and what remains unknowable within us.
