BLUE LANTERN CURRENT - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the edge of still water, Blue Lantern Current turns a small source of light into a meditation on pause, proximity, and return. The lantern rests beside the water without seeming to command it, held between the firm direction of the stone ledge and the fluid uncertainty below. Its cool presence suggests guidance that does not point toward a destination, but makes waiting feel deliberate.

The reflected lantern gives this stillness a second register. Below the ledge, its image appears less like a duplicate than a thought briefly recovered - recognizable, yet altered by the water’s movement. That correspondence lends the scene an inward rhythm, as though the visible object and its reflection are listening to one another.

Dense overhanging foliage gathers along the water’s edge, enclosing the lantern in a sheltered interval. The pale illumination around it does not dispel the surrounding blue; instead, it allows darkness and clarity to coexist. There is a sense of attention here, patient enough to notice what usually passes unnoticed.

The diagonal ledge carries the eye toward the lantern, while the mirrored lower field resists any final sense of arrival. This tension keeps the work poised between passage and staying, between a place reached and a moment not yet relinquished. Its serenity is therefore active rather than empty, sustained by the possibility that reflection can become a form of orientation.
