BEFORE THE WINTER - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

BEFORE THE WINTER — A luminous woodland scene unfolds beneath a canopy of tall, mostly leafless trees. Deep, expressive contours frame a narrow wet path or reflective ground plane, drawing the eye toward two small figures gathered in the distant center. The quiet composition captures the threshold between autumn’s vivid richness and the approaching stillness suggested by the title.

Nearly black and charcoal trunks anchor the left foreground while intricate bare branches spread across the upper portion. Beyond them, diffuse light glows through the forest, illuminating layers of golden yellow, ochre, orange, and rust-red foliage. The lower right foreground shimmers with saturated reflections, joined by subtle pale blue, blue-green, and lavender tones. Bold dark forms, textured brushwork, and vivid color contrasts create an expressive painterly surface. A small light-colored inscription is visible near the lower left edge.

With its strong vertical framing and bright central opening, this landscape brings depth and visual movement to a living room, study, hallway, or reading space. Its contemplative autumn atmosphere suits interiors favoring natural subjects, rich color, and expressive texture. The distant figures add a quiet human presence without interrupting the woodland’s spacious, reflective mood.
