Two figures hold their ground together in Balanced State, where closeness becomes the work’s central language rather than a decorative detail. Seen from behind, the dogs turn slightly toward one another, withholding their faces while making their mutual reliance unmistakable. Their shared posture suggests a companionship built through presence - steady, unannounced, and already understood.
The warmer dog and its pale companion gather beneath a focused lift of light, their backs carrying the sense of shelter found in another living presence. Nothing in their pose demands attention; instead, the pair seems absorbed in a private alignment, as though each has settled beside the other without needing to explain why.
Around them, the darkened setting remains deliberately indistinct. This restraint keeps the reading close to the figures, while the tails extending in opposite directions introduce a gentle counterpoint to their joined shoulders. Separation still exists, but it no longer feels like distance; it becomes the space through which their balance is held.
There is tenderness in the fact that the dogs face away from us. The work does not offer an exchange for observation, but a moment of belonging witnessed from outside. Their quiet orientation toward each other leaves the surrounding darkness open, allowing intimacy to feel less like display than a condition they inhabit together.
