At the center, two figures give Balance of Two its title while resisting any simple division between self and other. Their extended arms meet across the composition, creating a poised exchange that feels less like an embrace than a negotiation of presence. Each body remains distinct, yet neither seems fully complete without the other’s answering gesture.
The faceless heads keep this encounter open-ended. Without expressions to settle the mood, attention shifts to the closeness of the figures and the varied colors that pass through their bodies, as though identity here is made from several states held together. The work suggests intimacy without prescribing tenderness, allowing connection to appear as both support and uncertainty.
Beneath them, a dark horizontal form gives the meeting a provisional ground, while the long legs seem to test how securely that ground can hold. The result is a suspended moment in which equilibrium depends on proximity rather than stillness. Their balance feels active and slightly fragile, sustained by the space between reaching and retreating.
