AUTUMN STROLL BENEATH THE LANTERNS - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

A solitary passage gathers its warmth slowly, making Autumn Stroll Beneath the Lanterns feel less like a destination than a temporary shelter from the gathering dark. The receding lights draw the eye forward, yet the figures remain turned away, withholding any clear account of where they have come from or where they intend to go. Their shared direction gives the scene its emotional center: companionship expressed through unhurried movement rather than encounter.

The dog’s steady presence beside the long-coated walker lends the scene an unspoken rhythm. Fallen leaves soften the narrow route into something seasonal and inward-looking, while the dark canopy keeps the illuminated path from becoming entirely open. There is comfort here, but it is measured comfort, held within shadow and the awareness that the passage continues beyond what can be seen.

As the lanterns diminish into the distance, the image allows ordinary walking to acquire the gravity of a private ritual. The small scale of the pair against the enclosing façades suggests neither isolation nor spectacle, but a moment of belonging to the hour itself. Warmth arrives in intervals, and the journey remains deliberately unresolved.
