Antwerp, Belgium - Artwork
Capturing a moment
How do artists paint their masterpieces? Sometimes you can see them sitting outside with their easels, paints and brushes and creating their magic on a canvas. However, in our digital age they only have to take a picture of a place they want to paint so that later they could recreate it in a comfortable environment at home. Moreover, if you are an artist who is visiting new and interesting places, you really want to paint all of them without missing a single detail. Some places have a special look, let’s say at the sunset. Do you think it’s possible to paint a canvas in such a short time (because, as we know, sunsets or sunrises don’t last long). Or remember all of the colors nature showed us at that moment and depict them later? That’s when we need a camera! Every sunset or sunrise is unique and you don’t want to miss a thing while showing the moment you thought was beautiful! As you might know, Leonid Afremov is fond of travelling with his family and he has visited many interesting places. He quite often uses his camera to capture a moment and then later recreates it on his canvases. In one of his journey to Antwerp, in Belgium, he took a beautiful picture of boats near the pier on the river Schelde.
A diamond capital of the world
Antwerp is the world’s diamond capital, the center of Belgium fashion and the city of Dutch millionaires. It’s the second largest city in Belgium which is also called “a pocket-sized metropolis”. You can definitely fall in love with this small city of a large Europe with its narrow quiet streets, cozy little restaurants, and a breathtaking view of the river. However, you might be disappointed with its weather in summer- to say the least of it, it’s not very hot. As mentioned above, Antwerp is famous for its diamonds. There are more than one thousand five hundred companies that are involved in diamond business. What can really amaze you is people’s attitude to these precious stones- they think that diamonds are ordinary and simple things. However, many of us would completely disagree, as we see them as something very expensive, gorgeous and a sign of social status. Maybe that is the reason you don’t believe these precious stones are real when we see them everywhere, even in small unnoticeable shops. There is also a so-called Diamond Quarter in Antwerp. It is several streets where the ground floor of every building is occupied by jewelry shops. So if you even decide to shower yourself with diamonds, this little city in Belgium is the right place to go. In general, Antwerp is quite a peaceful and quiet touristic city with many landmarks and interesting places to see.
What else can you do in Antwerp?
- You can take a romantic stroll down the bank of the river and enjoy an outstanding view of the city;
- See a monument of Sir Peter Paul Rubens who lived and worked in this wonderful city;
- Make sure to visit a magnificently-looking Cathedral of our Lady which will definitely amaze you with its size and beauty;
- Spend a wonderful evening in one of the little cozy restaurant and enjoy their delicious local food;
- Visit numerous museums, galleries and exhibitions with too much art to see in one day, so you will have to plan a couple of days for it;
- If you’re travelling with children, take them to Antwerp Zoo - one of the oldest zoological parks in the world.
If you don’t have the chance to travel to Belgium yourself, you can surely bring a piece of this country to you by simply buying this terrific piece of art and brightening your home with it. This painting will surely become an excellent adornment to your interior no matter if you hang it in the living room, dining room or a bedroom.
