Within this shadowed woodland, Ants and Flies turns a familiar natural order into something vast, watchful, and uncertain. The insects do not feel merely enlarged; they seem to belong to a parallel society whose movements follow laws just beyond human understanding. At the center, a winged figure faces the pale opening between the trees, giving the scene the tension of a departure, an arrival, or a moment of collective change.
The forest floor becomes a place of gathering rather than simple wilderness. Dark forms and rust-colored bodies appear to negotiate distance, labor, and territory, while the surrounding trunks lend the scene a solemn architecture. Their scale unsettles the usual hierarchy between observer and observed, inviting a more instinctive awareness of how much life may be taking place beyond ordinary notice.
That luminous passage in the distance offers no fixed promise of escape. It may be a route through the forest, or only an opening that makes the surrounding darkness more legible. Against it, the central insect carries an ambiguity that deepens the work: it can suggest command, vulnerability, or the burden of moving first when the path ahead remains unknown.
What lingers is the sense of a hidden order briefly revealed. The clustered insects seem purposeful without becoming readable, and their presence gives the woodland an intelligence that cannot be reduced to a single symbol. The scene holds wonder alongside unease, as though the boundary between a quiet forest and an immense, active world has momentarily fallen away.
