This painting looks tridimensional and has a lot of heavy textures
After Sand focuses on a tea bowl and whisk first, then lets the eye travel outward across a raked sand garden.
Midground shapes stay simplified and graphic, while texture supplies the nuance. Edges are carved with decisive knife marks, giving forms a sculpted clarity. Negative space is used on purpose, letting the composition breathe. The background dissolves into larger color fields so the main object stays dominant.
The palette leans into stone beige with cool slate, with warm highlights balancing cool cobalt shadow planes. Overall it reads minimal and contemplative, letting texture and color do most of the narration.
Every surface is constructed for knife work—layered, tactile, and readable, with reflections suggested in a few confident passes.
Directional knife marks subtly point toward the subject, creating movement even in still scenes.
Soft reflections appear where they make sense—water, glass, polished stone—kept broad and easy to execute.
Texture is emphasized through ridged impasto that catches light and gives the surface a sculptural feel.
