Interesting about Copenhagen

A little discourse to the History of Cityscapes

According archeological excavations the first cityscape was discovered in the ruins of a Roman emperor Trojan’s thermae which was built in the first century A.D. It was a giant hand painted wall art of 10 sq. meters depicting a bird’s-eye view of a seaport town from a bird’s eye view. It’s still unknown if it was a real town illustrated on that fresco or a fictional one. In the Medieval period cityscapes were only used as a background for portraits or a part of biblically themed paintings. In the middle of the seventeenth century in the Netherlands cityscape became a separate genre of art. Images of such cities as Amsterdam, Harlem, and the Hague were captured on unfading canvases of Dutch artists. Soon after, artists of other European cities took over this new genre. Nowadays, cityscapes can be found in almost any apartment, office building or other business establishment.  It brings a special charm to the interior and shows a great taste of the owner. In our art gallery you will be able to choose a painting you like from hundreds of masterfully hand-painted canvases.
