about this painting:

REMEMBERING

Sweet memories

Each of us has a special place associated with precious moments and distant events of the past. When we are sad, we come here in search of comfort. When we are happy, we return again to celebrate our success. And even when there is nothing special going on in our life, our legs carry us to this memorable spot that is always dear to our heart. Obviously, there is something very important about the street depicted in this modern painting by Leonid Afremov. For some reason, he chose this very scenery as a source of inspiration. Under his palette knife, a common urban view ignites with unexpectedly bright colors and bursts into a swirl of lights that pull you into the painting and make you part of this night.

Simple beauty

It’s a quiet and beautiful hour. Still wet with rain, the road sparkles with myriads of reflections that change their pattern along with the movement of the water. The old buildings snooze cozily in the green shelter of the foliage, their windows dark and motionless behind the closed curtains. Brightly illuminated by the burning lanterns, each tree is a beautiful mixture of orange, green and black resembling a huge candle. The subtle play of light and shadow on the canvas makes everything look unusual and mysterious and even the stormy sky turns into a breathtaking patchwork of vibrant strokes that pour down on the sleeping city filling the streets with luminous colors and cheerful emotions.

Union of colors

If you look close at this painting, you’ll see that it is clearly divided into three color planes:

  • Rich warm shades of red, orange and black for buildings, lamp posts and the road in the foreground.
  • Semi-warm tints of yellow and green used to paint trees.
  • Cold blue, violet and black colors representing the night sky and the mist creeping into the scene from the dark corners of the street. We can also see them dancing on the wet asphalt as the road runs into the distance.

These different planes penetrate into each other and direct our eye around the painting giving it a perfect balance and making it so magically appealing. Enhanced by the way Leonid Afremov lays oil on canvas, this correlation of colors allows him to achieve a striking visual effect – the painting is very bright, warm and cozy, it radiates positivity and lifts your mood. Testimonials
Was a bit skeptical on ordering an oil painting before seeing it directly and additionally being in India. Was blown over when the 2 paintings arrived perfectly good condition, delivered by DHL. The paintings are as expected - wow generators! Vibrant eye lockers. Keep it coming!

I'm a retired jazz trombonist. The essence of jazz is improvisation. Improvisation is the ability to look at a thing from a different perspective each time you look at it. That is what the pallet knife wielding Mr. Leonid Afremov does with his recreations. I have the pleasure of waking each morning and looking up the rain swept street of "The Loneliness of Autumn" and wondering where my road may take each day. I wasn't prepared for the blaze of color or the depth of feeling when I tore the boxing open at delivery even though I had looked at the painting on the internet dozens of times before purchasing. It was like seeing and hearing Louis Armstrong in person for the first time after just listening to him on recordings. Some times it even awakens the urge to pick up my horn and blow a few choruses straight at the painting expecting it to blow a chorus or two back at me. The man is a magician.

Your paintings are a real inspiration to me. I first came across your work on DeviantART and was entranced. As someone who suffers from severe depression, the color and life in your paintings transfers to me when it seems I need it most. keep up the wonderful work I look forward to purchasing many more in the future!
