about this painting:
Portugal – Madeira Island
The golden dawn
You’ll hardly find anything like that among the famous works with the Portuguese landscapes made by well known painters. The stunningly beautiful painting by Leonid Afremov makes the hearts of not only Portugal lovers, and especially Madeira, but also of all the lovers of modern art beat very quickly, because the painting depicts a real firework of colors – the night city is painted in golden colors created by the light of lanterns which makes it especially beautiful. This color is reflected in the sky in the form of yellow-orange flashes. The houses depicted in the painting are clearly built in the Moorish style, which is typical of Madeira. The city is comfortably located on the mountainside and we see that the slope is strewn with thousands of lights. Their colorful palette resembles confetti. If you look closely, you can distinguish a pier in the foreground along which stand several yachts – Madeira is just a paradise for lovers of yacht voyages. Here you can enjoy sea travels for short distances. On the left, we see a small row of lanterns with red lights – they resemble lighted matches so much that we can even distinguish some elements of the flame – they differ in color – the center is yellow, and at the edges they become red. You can also notice small spots of blue. It is difficult to say why the artist used this color. But in any case, all the shade looks quite harmonious in this painting. So, it gives the impression of a holistic pattern.
Let's take a short tour of Madeira and virtually visit its main attractions:
- The palace and the tropical garden of Monte is a landmark of Madeira, which can be referred not to man-made, but to natural ones. And this is true: on such a beautiful island, visiting museums is just the waste of time.
- Pico Ruivo is a breathtaking landmark of Madeira. This is the highest mountain on the island, propping with its sharp rocky top the bottomless sky over the Atlantic Ocean. The height of Pico Ruyva (translated from Portuguese “peak of red color”) reaches 1862 m.
- On the relic island of Madeira, where dinosaurs and prehistoric giant lizards would have looked quite appropriately, in a creepy, almost unreachable wilderness lurked a small village – Curral-das-Freyrash.
Let the positive emotions from viewing this painting inspire you to make a trip to the paradise island of Madeira and feel the whole colors of the Portuguese resort.
