I would like to present my hand painted oil on canvas painting (recreation) of the artwork OLD SONG. I made this piece with the same amount of soul and emotion just like the first original painting. This piece is created with oil paint on artistic canvas using my unique technique of a palette knife. The artwork has texture, you can feel the strokes by touching the painting. about this painting:

How often do you like some painting? How often do you pay attention to its technique, the quality of paint and the application of strokes?

Without any doubt, the most important thing about any piece of art is its emotional expressiveness. If a painting makes us reflect on some problem, sympathize with its characters or at least provoke some sensation in our souls, we usually call it a good painting. However, what is interesting is how the artists manages to express this feeling in terms of technique and materials.

Let us look at some types of paint and find out how the painting where one uses them produce a certain impression on a viewer:

  • This paint is quite transparent, so aquarelle paintings turn out romantic and gentle. It is perfect for painting water (from which it takes its name) or nature, especially in its everchanging states. You can use this paint to paint portraits and still lives as well, however, it takes time and effort to learn how to use it.
  • It is the most modern type of paint that is used today. Polymers in the composition of the paint make this paint very resistible to sun or any dirt. After the paint is dry, the color does not change, which is also a nice thing. Moreover, you can apply it to any surface without any preparation work.
  • Probably, the most popular paint among professional artists. Its main bonus is that you can use different techniques of application, make the colors look as vivid or as transparent as you like. It is good for painting practically anything, but not easy to use.

There are, of course, more different types of paint. However, these three are the most popular and easily found in shops. Now let us take as an example of oil painting one of Leonid Afremov’s works that is so talentfully done that seems a song on canvas.

In his work, Afremov only uses high-quality materials. Moreover, he completely mastered the technique of applying oil paint on canvas with a palette knife – a special instrument, that is usually used to mix colors or paint lines. However, Afremov operates a knife to get the impression of 3D strokes. When the paint that he applies dries, it looks more realistic and adds depth to the painting.

On this still life, you can see a violin and an open book. As you know, firstly, still lives appeared in the Middle Ages and their goal was to serve as a reminder of the fact that life is short and that death can be after every corner. So, one can say that it was, in a way, not a very cheerful genre.

Anyway, this painting by Leonid Afremov has nothing in common with dark and mysterious paintings of the past. On the contrary, its cheerful warm colors brighten up your mood.

My 3 paintings arrived this week and they are by far the BEST birthday gift my husband Joe has ever given me! I hung one painting," Light Snow" at the bottom of our stairs so that every morning as I begin my day I see it and I can't hold back my smile!! The other two"Night Sparks" and "Sailing Away" are both also hanging in prominent spots in our home so that they bring joy to our visitors as well as us!! Thank you so much for the gift of your amazing talent.
