The beauty icon of the ‘50s

James Dean is one of the brightest stars that disappeared from the sky of American show business way too quickly. Despite the fact his career was very short he did manage to leave an unforgettable trail in many people’s hearts. Many of us might still have some pictures of handsome James Dean buried somewhere in their closets or even still hanging on the wall. He was an idol and a beauty icon for some women and young girls of the 1950s.  Let’s find out who Jimmy Dean was and how tragically his life ended.

Facts about James Dean

1. James Dean wasn’t born in a hospital room. His mother gave birth to him in a hotel room in Indiana. His father was a farmer; however, six years after James was born he changed his occupation and became a dentist. The family moved to California.
2. James was very close to his mother. He was completely crushed when she died when he was only nine years old. Some sources say that cancer took her life; however, in his autobiography James himself claimed that he didn’t know what real reason for her death was.  
3. The actor’s full name is James Byron Dean. His mother gave him such a beautiful middle name because he really loved poetry and named him after one of his favorite poets. 
4. In order not to go to the Army, James referred to himself as gay, as at that it was considered to be a psychological disorder and allowed you to escape the army. Despite the fact that several times he was noticed in gay clubs, his name often adorned newspaper covers screaming about his romance with a new woman.  However, the brightest and the most passionate romance in his life was with a young Italian actress named/called Pier Angeli. Her mother was a strict catholic and wouldn’t allow her daughter to marry one of the most rebellious personalities of that time. Pier married another man and James was noticed, watching the ceremony from a distance. James himself denied that fact.
5. James Dean had a chance to play only in three movies. They are “East of Eden”, “Rebel without a Cause” and “Giant”. He was the only actor who was nominated for and received two Oscars after his death.
6. James Dean died in a terrible car accident on the 30^th of September in 1955. He wasn’t even 25 years old when it happened.
7. About a dozen of documentaries and several movies have been made about this wonderful actor.
