Painting the Eiffel Tower isn’t very original – from the moment of its opening, this architectural masterpiece has appeared on canvas thousands of times. But tell me, can you resist laying your brush on something as magnificent and admirable? I know I can’t!
More than any other city in the world, I love Paris landscapes with its broad shiny prospects and old crooked alleys, quiet cozy bakeshops and luxurious restaurants, motley street fairs and neon-lit night clubs. I find this combination of century-old cultural traditions and bustling modern life very inspiring and return here over and over again to pick up some new ideas for my artworks
Love at first sight
I remember visiting the Eiffel Tower for the first time. Of course, I saw it before on photos, but it’s not the same as a live legend that rises in front of you in its full splendor. It was night and the Eiffel Tower was glowing in the dark sky like a giant candle, so bright that all the lanterns of Champ de Mars were no match even for its reflection in the water. This glow was too much to contain, it was spilling into the air and lighting up everything it could reach, farther and farther, until the entire Paris was cloaked in color and joy… I lost track of time enjoying the magical vision that was unfolding before my astonished eyes. That’s how this cityscape was born.
