Strolling under the rain

Leonid Afremov is ready to surprise us with his new works included in his series of famous autumn paintings. But it cannot be said that they are uniform – on the contrary each time Leonid uses a new palette of colors. Thus, in this painting we see a lot of shades of green – from very  bright to extremely  dark ones. So the foliage on the trees that stand on the left side of the sidewalk, he painted green yellow. Most of the leaves have just turned yellow and are not yet about to fall holding quite firmly on the branches. The trees we see are just the birch forest - a living embodiment of Russia, its symbol and pride. We understand this when we look at the trunk in the foreground – clearly, they have a black and white pattern of this primordially Russian tree. It is followed by similar trees.

On the right side, however, we see trees of a completely different kind - their thin trunks grow like beams. They are completely naked in contrast to the birches. We do not see a single leaflet on them. It is all the more surprising taking into consideration the fact that the grass beneath them is painted in a dark green color. In the mirror surface of the sidewalk washed by rainwater in bizarre forms the trunks and figures of people walking on the sidewalk are reflected. These two women who are probably close friends are chatting despite the bad weather - judging by the fact that they hold an umbrella in their hands, we understand that it is still raining. Let it not be strong but it is still rain. Judging by the name of the painting, they do nothing else but gossiping. And bad weather does not interfere them from this conversation at all.
