about this painting:
When autumn comes on
In his oil paintings on canvas, Leonid Afremov often depicts autumn that seems to be his favorite time of the year. Glowing like a lonely lantern among reddish leaves, it walks around a quiet pensive park magically changing it with its golden touch. Though its steps are silent and soft, every piece of nature notices its presence.
- The joyful blue color of the sky gives way to a stricter greyish tone.
- The smile of the sun becomes more discreet and soft; its endless warmth grows fragile and transparent, hardly sensible in the chilly air.
- The contours of bright summer days fade away, nights get longer and darker and leaves are about to start falling any minute.
- People are cuddling up trying to find shelter from drizzling rain under umbrellas.
Why do we love this season so much then? Leonid Afremov reminds us of that showing all the richness of autumn palette in bright strokes of the palette knife.
Golden fairy tale
Autumn appears on the stage followed by two people strolling along an empty park alley. They walk in silence occasionally exchanging delighted remarks about the transformations of nature that unfold before their eyes. Familiar like the back of their hand, the park totally altered its appearance. Everything looks totally new and unrecognizable yet so charming and magnificent. The bridge they’ve crossed hundreds of times is illuminated by splendid golden light. Lined along the alley like a breathing wall, the trees greet the couple with friendly rustle. Their dressing became more scenic and gained new colors. Gold, reddish, brown, violet, yellow and beige leaves highlight the uniqueness of the newborn season.
Water, an irreplaceable part of Leonid Afremov oil paintings, successfully complements this romantic image. The river running through the park is like a multicolored mirror that reflects the entire beauty and charm of autumn. Multiplying every tiny source of light, small rain turns the pavement into an incredible mosaic of colorful reflections that sparkle and dance along the path. Everything is filled with a special sort of harmony that makes us broody, sensitive and a little sad. When we look at this marvelous scene, we can see that despite its coolness and humidity autumn is full of magical charm that touches our hearts.
