about this painting:
Wonderful and all-consuming
All because of love
It has been said that art in general emerged because people had to somehow express their love. That’s why the topic of love is so widely spread among artists and in high demand among art lovers and buyers. Many great novels, poems, paintings and films have been devoted to this wonderful feeling. However, only painting has always faced one particular problem- to depict love only in one image, in statics. That is why pictorial art has to find its way in order to show such a complex feeling in one static moment. It is extremely hard to do and maybe it is the main reason why famous paintings of young, loving couples are so touching and exciting at the same time.
Popular canvases about love
- Leonid Afremov is a great representative of contemporary artists who have devoted so many paintings to love. You can see loving couples walking in a park, holding hands and kissing. All of his canvases are filled with bright colors and it makes us feel the love coming from his paintings even stronger. The painting called Couples is a great example of typical Afremov. Here we see a fantastically beautiful autumn park and a loving couple walking their dogs. The artist used yellow, orange and red to depict leaves on tree and on the ground and they are the colors of the warm color spectrum; this helps us feel the warmth of love even better.
- Almost all of the oeuvre of the French artist Adophe Bouguereau is filled with the theme of love. However, there are two pieces that depict undoubtedly sincere and clear feelings. Their names are Angels and Idyll. Their beauty lies in their simplicity because there is nothing in excess. Someone might say that maybe it’s not love, but tenderness, a sweet anticipation of something; however, doesn’t love consist of these things?
- The painting Kiss of an Austrian modernist artist Gustav Klimt is fully devoted to love. The love of the people depicted in it is so strong that it paints the world around in a golden color and the characters themselves become a complete whole. For several centuries this canvas has been considered to be the best illustration of the Romeo and Juliet.
- Rene Magritte masterfully depicted all the delicacy of relationships between men and women in his wonderful series of paintings called The Lovers. Through the covered heads of this couple on his canvases he wanted to show us the idea of blindness of love. That’s how big and all-consuming love is!
