about this painting:

Every nation can be proud of its peculiarities characterizing people and the country they live in. Undoubtedly, dances, as songs, are vivid features of one’s culture, representing its uniqueness and singularity. For instance, flamenco is the most famous Spanish dance that is full of passion and elegance. To dance it, perfectly knowing the moves is not enough - you have to posses a fiery Spanish soul. Being far away from Spain, a person can feel the genuine atmosphere of flamenco just by looking at one of the most beautiful and famous paintings of Leonid Afremov!

The wild bird

At first, the viewer notices a vague female silhouette. Its contours and lines are smudgy and colors abruptly turn into one another. Then, moving closer, the person is able to discern a woman in blurry smears, made intentionally so subtle; she is in the process of dancing. Thus, the artist managed to do an almost impossible thing – he captured an intangible moment of dance. Despite the vagueness of her appearance, the dancer looks gorgeous. She possesses a confident and even a bit haughty bearing. Erecting one hand upwards and stretching the other aside, the woman looks like a wonderful untamed bird. Moreover, her hands, holding a red shawl, resemble a giant butterfly at the edge of flying away… Evidently, the dancer is wearing a typical flamenco dress, floor-length and decorated with frills and flounces. Her stunning outfit seems to be alive, as she skillfully plays with it while dancing. As for the shawl, it is another classical attribute of female flamenco. It gently embraces the silhouette of hers, making the dancer even more charismatic and elusive at the same time.

The dance of colors

The palette of this wonderful pictures lives a life of its own. The colors seem to be moving and dancing along with the graceful silhouette:

  • A red wave of fire is sweeping around the dancer creating a roaring whirlpool ready to absorb you.
  • Phosphorescent blue and green tints set off the vibrancy of red making the woman’s figure stand out among the multitude of colorful strokes.
  • Finally, inky blue and violet, almost black shades add depth and mystery to the picture making it so beautiful and fascinating.

No doubts, this passionate canvas will capture everyone’s attention. It will make a great focal point for any interior sparkling on your wall. Its refined sophistication and magnetism will create an amazing atmosphere in the room and make you feel the entire spectrum of emotions evoked by the fiery flamenco!

Today I bought one of your paintings, and believe it or not it was the first time in my life, at age 42, that I have ever bought a painting. It wasn't the specific painting that inspired me but rather the artist. If I could afford it I would decorate every wall of my home with your paintings. Thank you for sharing your art.

If I am honest I would have to admit, never did I dream I would abandon the works of Rei` Munoz. Then I saw Leonid Afremovs' creation 'Alley by the Lake'. I anticipate many, many years of collecting these fine pieces. Livinnia Boschenstein
