ORBITS OVER ICE feels almost architectural in the way it is organized. Whether the viewer notices faint planetary arcs and stars first or reads the surrounding a frozen lake reflecting a clear night sky first, the scene locks together through large shapes before any smaller detail becomes important.

The composition sits horizon low with the sky dominating most of the frame, allowing foreground information to feel weighty while the background remains broad and suggestive. Knife work compresses some passages into dense ridges and opens others into flatter sweeps, so the surface alternates between resistance and release.
