about this painting:

There, on the horizon…

The image of white sail has repeatedly manifested itself in art for centuries. The carrier of favorable wind, a good omen boding changes for the better, it looms on the horizon, visible through mist and storms and even the fiercest of weathers can’t bring it down. A person of romantic nature, Leonid Afremov is particularly fascinated with ships that appear in many of his wall pictures. Here, in this marvelous seascape, we can see a lonely boat making its way across the ocean expanse with a fluttering sail that shines white against the unfathomable blueness of the sky.  Where is it heading for? Who is the man onboard? Maybe the artist himself? We can only guess. But do we really need all these answers? The main thing about this painting is the incredible mood it creates, the feeling of spirituality and happiness that seizes you as you imagine yourself sitting in that very boat, your hair disheveled by the fresh breeze, your face wet with salty splashes of water, your heart leaping up and sinking down along with the rhythm of waves that carry you. Enjoy this amazing moment every day by hanging the canvas on your wall and having it before your eyes all the time!

White sail symbolism

What does the symbol of a white sail mean for us? It is linked to a lot of good emotions:

·         Hope. Fancy yourself on a deserted island. After months of futile waiting, you finally spot a white sail in the distance! Can anything in the whole world make you happier this very second?

·         Freedom. Off into the sea, towards new discoveries and mortal dangers! Just you and the horizon, and miles of water rolling ahead… You are free as you can ever be!

·         Change. A white sail never appears for nothing. It brings news from distant lands and calls you to action. Once you see it, you know that your life will never be the same.

Feel the wind in the canvas!

Using his iconic palette knife technique, Leonid Afremov managed to include all these feelings into a single work. Taking up almost the entire canvas, the white sail is certainly the central image in the painting. It is lifted up and pointed right into the sky as if striving to reach for the sun and we can see how the wind fills it with speed and literally sends the boat flying. The bright white triangle of the sail is surrounded by blue from all sides – the calm blue of the sea merges with the sparkling blue of the sky that seems to be full of stars although it is clearly day time. Dreamy, inspiring and a little magical, this work of art will make a delightful addition to your collection of wall pictures for living room. I bought several paintings many years ago. One was a gift to my fiancée and the other proudly hangs in my office. The first thing people do when they walk in my office is ask about the painting and admire the art work. One of my workers now owns 5! I will be purchasing more soon as I so treasure the one in my office and the other that is now in our house. Stunning work that will bring you many many years of enjoyment!
