about this painting:
In the rhythm of love
A dance can tell about the relationship in a couple. It can unite two people who devote themselves to it. The piece of contemporary art here depicts such genre as waltz, which became popular in Vienna in the 80s of the 17th century. Nowadays many choose it as their first dance as husband and wife. And there are reasons for that:
- It’s not so passionate as rumba, samba or salsa. Because the dance of newly wedded should demonstrate their tenderness to each other.
- Waltz is quite slow if compared to energetic jive, for example. But that’s why it’s so beautiful! The melody, which accompanies it, is delicate and romantic.
- The leading role belongs to a man. As far as the husband is the head of the family.
Waltz comes from the Renaissance. At that time court dances were distinguished from country dances. One had to train a lot to perform on a ball. Court dances were a formal entertainment, that’s why waltz is calm by its nature. It reminds of the evenings when men and women took pleasure in communicating and making new acquaintances. Many painters depicted the scenes of dancing to show this atmosphere of joy!
Dancing all night long
Leonid Afremov is one of contemporary artists who never cease to amaze their viewers. Just look at this oil painting! How gracious is the lady and how elegant is the gentleman who whirls her in the circle. Smooth movements of the partners demonstrate harmony between them. And everything around them is dancing too. It seems that the woman’s dress doesn’t have a hem as it interflows in the multicolored background of the work. The couple is spinning and involves us into the dance. They’re like prince and princess from a fairy-tale, who have met on a ball. Maybe now the clock will struck midnight and the princess will have to run away? Will she lose her crystal shoes? No, not in this story. Because canvases by Leonid Afremov aren’t just contemporary art for sale – they’re created to make wonders which will never disappear! Never stop believing in miracles!
