about this painting:
VENICE GRAND CANAL
The city of unmatched beauty
One of the most picturesque and romantic cities in the world, Venice has always attracted poets and artists who came there in search of inspiration. The intricate web of channels and bridges, the quite plash of oars coming from dozens of gondolas, the calm surface of the water speckled with night city reflections… Mixed together on this fine piece of large canvas art depicting the famous Grand Canal, they create an unforgettable symphony of colors.
Night water views
The first thing we notice when looking at this painting is the amazing amount of light. Coming from two strings of small lanterns lined up along the channel, it reflects in the dark channel in long multicolored streaks trembling in the light breeze. Parked next to each other at the hospitably glowing pier, the delicately painted gondolas are swaying drowsily on gentle waves likes a flock of seagulls. The houses seem to be sleeping too, with black slits of windows showing no signs of life, but being illuminated by the pier lights, they look warm and refined as if made of gold. To express the feeling of delight that seizes us while contemplating this scene, the artist covered the sky with motley taps of paint evolving from orange on the horizon into dark violet at the very top of the picture. The entire cityscape looks dreamy and magical, evoking a wide palette of emotions in the viewer, just as rich as the palette of colors used by Leonid Afremov to create this large canvas wall art.
