about this painting:

Waiting for something

Magic of an artist

Leonid Afremov is not simply another contemporary oil painter - he is an extraordinary and a very gifted artist who manages to create outstanding masterpieces with his palette knife and oils. All of his paintings have a story to tell. At times it seems that you can even hear the sound of the wind, rain, cars and people’s voices, while simply looking at a painting. You get the feeling that at any moment everything depicted in his canvas might come to life. That’s what a real talent is and it is very magical!

Do you hear the sound of the rain drops falling from the sky and drumming on the road, roofs of the buildings, flowers, that lonely woman’s umbrella? Can you feel it on your skin? Can you smell wet asphalt after a hot summer day? Why are we talking about feelings and impressions here? The answer is simple. Leonid Afremov is a contemporary impressionist artist and the main purpose of Impressionism is to show us the beauty of the surrounding world and make us feel something. It can be whatever the artist feels while working on the canvas or our own impressions depending on the mood we are in at that exact moment, or even our childhood memories, for instance.

A story to tell

Every single impressionist painting has a story to share with us. What is the story of this piece? Let’s make a couple of assumptions.

  1. The woman was waiting for someone but he never showed up. Now she is very upset and has to go home by public transport. She could have probably walked home, but she’s not in the mood for a romantic stroll under the rain anymore. This painting will always keep us wondering if those are tears on her cheeks or just raindrops. Maybe that special someone will still show up and save her from the rain? There’s always hope.
  2. After a long, tiresome day at work the woman is in a hurry to get home to her loving family. It was so hot during the day, so that this evening rain seems like a relief to her. She is waiting for the bus and enjoying its refreshing coolness. Maybe she wishes for the bus not to come so quickly?

If you decide to purchase this painting it will forever take a center spot in your home. No matter if you hang it in the living room, hallway or study it will be a great addition to your interior.

I just received my "Dancing in the Rain" painting and I am completely in love with it! Thank you so much for this amazing piece, Mr. Afremov! This is my second piece by you and I am already picking out my third! :) You are truly a rare talent!

I'm a retired jazz trombonist. The essence of jazz is improvisation. Improvisation is the ability to look at a thing from a different perspective each time you look at it. That is what the pallet knife wielding Mr. Leonid Afremov does with his recreations. I have the pleasure of waking each morning and looking up the rain swept street of "The Loneliness of Autumn" and wondering where my road may take each day. I wasn't prepared for the blaze of color or the depth of feeling when I tore the boxing open at delivery even though I had looked at the painting on the internet dozens of times before purchasing. It was like seeing and hearing Louis Armstrong in person for the first time after just listening to him on recordings. Some times it even awakens the urge to pick up my horn and blow a few choruses straight at the painting expecting it to blow a chorus or two back at me. The man is a magician.
