about this painting:
The painting of Leonid Afremov is simply amazing with its colors making the picture particularly plausible at the same time bringing into it some kind of fairy-tale.
So ,in the painting we see a January coniferous forest illuminated by the first rays of the morning sun. Although you may at first sight be given the impression that these rays can warm you, it’s nothing near so – not in this case. Still a lot of time has to pass before they become really warm. Maybe their warmth will be felt only closer to noon, when the snow on the forest glades will begin to melt reminding that the winter has already begun to wane and spring is beginning to approach. These rays spread almost throughout the painting – they shine through the thin trunks of the pines, they fall on pure snow, painting it in yellow and orange colors. The orange lights of this solar flame are visible at the foot of the trees on the right – it seems that they burn up the snow. In this place, a clearing will soon appear and the fresh green grass will begin to pierce out. The trunks of the pines impress with their evenness and straightness. Their high crowns that give the sun the opportunity to penetrate through them make the forest almost transparent. It is filled with so much light that it is difficult to call it a forest in the full sense of the word.
Winter fairy tale
Hoarfrost, ice and snow sometimes create real miracles and can arrange a fabulous landscape literally anywhere. Frosty patterns on the windows and snow crunching under your feet, fragrances of mulled wine and gingerbread – winter has something with which it can compete with other seasons. So, here is the list of the places which are the most beautiful in winter:
- Jigokudani Monkey Park and Shirakawa-go historical village on Honshu Island, Japan. Lost in the mountains, Shirakawa-go has been cut off from civilization for a long time and has preserved its original appearance to this day. Here you can see red-faced snow macaques, taking hot bathes.
- The Amsterdam canals are beautiful at any time of the year. But in winter, when the snow lies on the roofs of houses and barges, on trees and lampposts along the embankment, they acquire a special charm.
- Finland in winter - a fairy tale in reality. There you will find the Village of Santa Claus, or - in a local way - Joulupukki and ice hotels with a northern light instead of a night light.
No matter in what cold land you are, the light of this painting will warm you not only on cold winter evenings but in all other seasons, creating affinity with nature.
