about this painting:
The lonely sail
Looking at this painting of Leonid Afremov called Gold Waves we literally see the waves made of gold. And we cannot but remember the famous poem of the great Russian poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov, in which he described a case when a lonely ship also ran into a gale under similar circumstances – the sun was shining whereas the sea was stormy – the golden ray of light was above him, as the great poet wrote.
Here we also see that on one side the sun is shining, whereas the other part of the sky is covered with heavy rain clouds as if a storm is about to break out. However, it is not entirely clear whether the storm has passed or whether it is just to come. In the sky, we see amazing colors – on the one side –bright orange and yellow shades in the place where the sun illuminates the clouds, on the other –the clouds are of natural color – dark blue and even violet, although in nature we can hardly find such colors. If you look closely, you can even see flashes of lightning in this side. By the way, the bright rays of the sun even reflects on the waves turning them orange.
But let's hope that our vessel still does not run into a storm and will remain safe and sound like its crew.
The sea poems
Looking at the sea we have not for nothing recalled the verses of Lermontov. According to one site, this poem is the best poem about the sea. Let's see what other poems from the Russian literature are considered the best works devoted to the marine theme:
- The poet Alexander Pushkin also dedicated his poem “To the Sea” to this indomitable element.
- Nikolai Gumilev endowed the night sea with mystical properties –in his poem “The Moon on the Sea”.
- The poet Fyodor Tyutchev in his poem “How good you are, the sea at night ...” penetrates to the water element with special trust and sympathy.
Enjoy the amazing landscape of Leonid Afremov and you will probably want to go to the sea but you will already have your own sea at home.
