about this painting:
THE BRIDGE OF RESPECT
Symbols of the past and present in art
It takes time for culture to form. Australian art culture is the oldest surviving culture in the world thanks to its aboriginal culture. Ancient artworks are discovered in Europe, Asia and Middle East and then are kept in museums in different parts of the world. Everything requires time. Something substantial and valuable appears with time. Something that stays for ages deserves respect.
Old things are respected because only quality creations have survived to the present days. When we look at the castles and bridges of the past, it seems to us that people could make high quality things in the past only. However, we do not take into account that only the most solid creations survived. Others just vanished and were destroyed with time or during wars. What remained is cherished now. Australian aborigines left good inheritance to Australia and people of the country are proud of old Australian art.
Old architecture is of special concern. The experts try to save the constructions built many centuries ago, while others do not even notice the change of epochs. Being a part of national culture collection, they still continue to serve. One of such constructions was depicted on the painting of Afremov “The Bridge of Respect”.
Glory of the past frozen in architecture
The painting “The Bridge of Respect”, painted by Leonid Afremov, shows massive and sold stone bridge that was erected for centuries. It reminds us about the architects of the past and their glory. Bridge meant much for the city:
It made the city strategically important.
It raised the trade turnover.
The cost of the construction meant nothing in comparison with the benefits gained.
Such infrastructure made the governor of the city respected. So bridge of respect performed its task.
Bridge is a symbol of courage
Looking at the bridge of respect, we can imagine how it was built. The citizens hoped that it would bring riches to the city. And it really did. The city’s trade started developing, people from afar brought the commodities, and the face of the city changed. It became more respected and more attractive for invaders. All wanted to possess such strategically important city. We see the warriors with mortal weapon storm the city and bravery of defenders who resisted and died for their homes. The solid castle and bridge survived in that war and still brings respect to local citizens being a symbol of courage that always deserves praise and respect.
