Art doesn’t need a language

When we travel to another country we are always interested in the culture, traditions and people’s lifestyle. We want to get to know how they live, what they are interested in, their way of thinking and their reaction to different life situations. No wonder Pythagoras once said that in order to understand people you need to learn their language first. Sure enough a person expresses himself through the language, words and thoughts. People also tend to express themselves through art. On the one hand, it might be easy to interpret famous Italian, French, Russian paintings, for instance, without knowing the language, but, on the other hand, we will never know for sure what the artists really wanted to tell us with their paintings and what they felt when they were creating their masterpieces.

Each of those sayings has its own special meaning, its unique philosophy and attitude towards life. It’s very interesting to trace the feelings and thoughts of the Italians when they speak about such a natural phenomena as rain. Let’s see what they have to say about it:

1. It’s not worth buying an umbrella after just one rain. This saying shows us the attitude of the Italians to a problem. Any problem is a common and passing moment of life and there is no need to spend all your energy and time trying to solve it.
2. Birds sing after the rain. This proverb means that something very good happens after any problematic situation.
3. No matter if the sun is shining or if it’s raining there is always someone who is not happy about the weather. There is no need to explain what this saying means.
4.  Let it rain if it rains. This proverb means that if whatever is happening doesn’t meet your expectations and there’s nothing you can do about it, just wait and it will get better.
5. When it’s raining even a crazy person goes home. This quite interesting saying means that when we have difficulties in our life we tend to go to the place where we feel support and where we are loved.

From the sayings above we can clearly tell that the Italians have quite a positive attitude towards life. Maybe that’s what Leonid Afremov wanted us to see when he created this wonderful canvas depicting remarkable Italy in a rainy evening.  No matter what is happening in our life right now it will all get better.
