about this painting:

1917

The watershed in history

Here you can buy large canvas paintings online that will fit every taste. You can choose between landscapes and cityscapes, nostalgic and optimistic paintings – actually, there are too many variants to list them all. A picture is worth a thousand words, doesn’t it? So just listen to your heart and choose what you like most. A little hint: if you are into vintage or history-themed art, this painting is very likely to appeal to you. 1917 was a year when the new era began, so the artist did his best to put as much life force into this painting as possible.

The passing of an era

The war is still not finished, but the end of it is near. Soon the political map of the world will be changed forever. But these people strolling along the streets don’t know it yet. Artists, writers, poets gather together to share their ideas… Soon the world will be completely different, but now it is still as elegant as it can be far from the battle line.

The example of large canvas paintings shows us a peaceful cityscape. A little trolley is making its way through the city’ streets – not so crowded and hardly breathing in traffic jams as it is nowadays. Leonid Afremov shows us the tempo of living as it used to be – easy-paced and hasteless. Isn’t it a great opportunity to compare modern cityscapes with 100-year-old pictures? It is like a trip to another world, to another planet where everything is different – and everything is so near and clear.

Some hints to highlight the peculiarities of the painting

Being a very imposing and eye-catching, this big-sized oil painting on canvas is going to dominate in the interior, so you may need some useful tips to find a perfect place for it:

1.            Choose some vintage details to run with the historic theme. Some books, or figurines, or smaller paintings would be great. But if the whole interior is stylish, it is even better!

2.            It is a “slice of life” type of art which usually looks great in sitting rooms or libraries.

3.            It will look great on a sole-colored background which will not rival the color-scheme of the painting (which is quite rich but at the same time very tender and mild).

The recent purchase of Venice Grand Canal is now in my living room. My mother was born in a little Italian town, so this painting is quite meaningful to me. Love, love, love it. Far from being ordinary. Such brilliant colors and movement. Leonid Afremov is a very talented artist. I will be looking through your catalog for another purchase Thank you Leonid for brightening my home and my life each and every day!

I could stare at "SPIRITS BY THE LAKE" all day long. It is the most amazing painting I have ever seen! I bought a copy of the painting and received it in the mail in under a week. I began crying before I even opened the package. To my surprise, the painting in person was not better than the photo. In fact, I don't want to compare it to the photo at all because what I got looks like an off-brand version that was painted by someone in a hurry. I suppose I got what I paid for.
